Axie Infinity announces three new eSports tournaments

Sky Mavis, the famous development studio behind the PvP adventure game Axie Infinity, has announced that it will be hosting three esports tournaments to coincide with its real-world gathering of blockchain enthusiasts at AxieCon.

Taking place in Barcelona from September 7-10th, Over the course of AxieCon, Axie Infinity has also announced a $1 million prize pool for the series of competitions, with the largest prize pool of $500,000 being reserved for Axie: Classic World Championship.

Axie: Classic World Championship Open Qualifiers will happen online between July 28 to August 21, 2022, and be divided into East and West divisions. By the end of the Qualifiers, 16 players will earn slots to compete at the Axie: Classic World Championship Finals in Barcelona. Fifty per cent of the $500,000 prize pool will be awarded to players competing in the qualifiers. The Axie: Classic World Championship will act as a final send-off for Axie Classic as the next era of esports is ushered in through Axie Infinity: Origin.

I couldn’t be more pleased with being able to give it a proper send-off and celebrate the journey we’ve taken to get here. As we look forward, the global launch of Axie: Origin will be a key moment in the history of Axie Infinity and serve as a catalyst for us to push Axie Esports to the next level,” commented Andrew ‘Zyori’ Campbell, Program Lead, Esports & Content Creators at Sky Mavis. “This series of events should be the perfect mix of honoring our great Lunacian history and celebrating the birth of our bright future!”

Alongside the World Championships, the two other competitions will consist of Axie: Origin BYOD and Axie: Origin Stadium Series, with access being open only to ticket-holders.

Those interested in being part of AxieCon in Barcelona can buy tickets by visiting the site here. Axie: Origin BYOD Tournament, which will run over the span of AxieCon, will crown the first-ever Axie Origin champion and include a total prize pool of $400,000.

The Origin Stadium Series aims to support players with a range of skill levels to compete for their share of a $100,000 prize pool. Stadium Series, on the other hand, will consist of several heats at fixed times during the entire event, with all players competing in mini-tournaments. The daily undefeated players get to face the Axie Final Four, which will be composed of Sky Mavis senior employees.
