Samsung releases blockchain software development kit for distributed smartphone apps

Technology giant Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. announced Wednesday the release of a new software development kit supporting the creation of blockchain distributed apps, called dApps, for the company’s Galaxy S10 phone series.

The blockchain distributed ledger dApp SDK provides a full set of tools and functions designed to help developers quickly build apps that can use the Ethereum public blockchain. It’s currently in beta and an overview of its details and functions is posted on Samsung’s developer portal.

“Samsung Blockchain SDK is available to communicate with external blockchain node providing payment solution,” a Samsung official told Yahoo! News. “It can reduce costs to build your dApp except in case if you have your own wallet logics already.”

The tools currently support five devices: Galaxy S10e, S10, S10+, S10 5G and Galaxy Fold. In March, the company announced that the Galaxy S10 device series would launch with a blockchain cryptocurrency wallet capable of holding crypto-assets compatible with the Ethereum blockchain and its token ETH and Ethereum-based ERC20 tokens.

This wallet enables the creation of dApps that use these tokens in order to execute distributed computing and provide payment functions that are the cornerstone of distributed apps. The company also announced the release of six new dApps compatible with the S10 series and the SDK beta, according to Korean local news outlet Fn.

“Since the blockchain key store and the blockchain wallet were installed in the Galaxy S10 in March, Samsung Electronics has proposed to cooperate with developers who can actually use dApps in succession,” Fn wrote in the article, as translated by Google.

The six new dApps launched include “The Hunters,” a crypto-based game platform; “MyCryptoHeroes,” a blockchain-powered game; “Berry Pick,” a social media platform that rewards users for staying active; Pundi X’s “X-Wallet,” a wallet app that supports bitcoin, Ethereum and Binance coin; “Syrup Table,” a restaurant review platform that rewards users with tokens; and “Misetoktok,” an app that allows users to make real-time checks on air quality and pollution levels.

Although these apps have been announced by Samsung, it’s believed that the company will continue to release further dApps this week. “We will add more dApps to the Samsung Blockchain Wallet this week, but we cannot confirm an exact number yet,” said a Samsung spokesperson.
